Best Discs for “One Disc Only” Rounds

Playing Disc Golf with only 1 disc

Disc Golf with Only One Disc

Sometimes you might feel like playing disc golf with just one disc. This could happen if you’re on vacation and can only bring one disc because you’re traveling by plane. Playing disc golf with just one disc is also great if you have a brand new disc and you want to really test it out to see how it fly’s and what kind of shots it is good for. Or maybe you’re in a hurry and want to run while playing to make the round all about exercise.  There are many reasons you might enjoy the simplicity of using just one disc for a disc golf round.

In this article, we’ll talk about the top 10 discs that are great for playing frisbee golf with only one disc. To find the best discs for a single round of disc golf, we looked at our own experiences and evaluated the data from InfiniteDiscs.com top selling and highest rated pages. By combining personal knowledge and data, we discovered the absolute best discs for playing a fun round of disc golf with just one disc.

Choosing the Best Disc for a Single Disc Round

The disc you choose for your one disc only round will depend on the course you’re playing.

If the disc golf course you’re playing is notably short, it is advisable to opt for a reliable putter that can serve as a versatile tool for both putting and driving. Choosing a putter with excellent control and accuracy will enable you to confidently sink putts while also providing the necessary stability and distance for shorter throws off the tee. This type of multipurpose disc enhances your gameplay by fulfilling various requirements across different aspects of the game.

Now, if you’re taking on a long course with par 4’s and 5’s, it’s all about getting more distance off the Tee. I recommend choosing a far flying fairway driver that’s neutral or slightly understable. Why? Well, this type of disc lets you unleash your throws for close to maximum distance while still maintaining control over where it goes and by being able to have a variety of different shot shapes. With this balanced approach, you’ll be able to conquer the lengthy course layout and navigate around obstacles during your rounds.

Best Putt and Approach Discs for One Disc Only Rounds

When it comes to playing single rounds on shorter to medium-sized disc golf courses, putt and approach discs are the way to go.

Ranking Mold Name Total Rating Star Rating Sales Rank
1 Axiom Envy 2.5 2 3
2 Infinite Discs Tomb 3 1 5
3 Infinite Discs Alpaca 3 4 2
4 Discraft Zone 3.5 3 4
5 Kastaplast Berg 7 8 6
6 Latitude 64 Pure 9.5 7 12
7 Gateway Wizard 10.5 11 10
8 Dynamic Discs Warden 14.5 9 20
  1. Axiom Envy: The Envy by Axiom is the top-rated putt and approach disc with a total rating of 2.5. It also holds the second position in both star rating ranking and top-selling discs. The Envy is known for its consistency and versatility, making it a favorite among many disc golf players. The Envy became especially popular when James Conrad aced with it on hole #16, and then hit the Holy Shot on his way to the 2021 disc golf World Championships.

  2. Infinite Discs Tomb: The Tomb by Infinite Discs has a total rating of 3. It ranks first in star rating and fifth in top-selling discs. The Tomb is praised for its straight flight and high glide, making it an excellent choice for players looking for a reliable putt and approach disc.

When it comes to playing single rounds on shorter to medium-sized disc golf courses, my personal favorite is the Infinite Discs Tomb.  I have multiple Aces with the Tomb including the first round I ever played with it. This disc has proven itself on a short courses where I recently shot an impressive 7 under par for nine holes. The reason I love it so much is its remarkable straight but versatile flight path.

The Tomb is primarily an approach disc, so it’s not designed for maximum distance. However, I’ve managed to push it out to nearly 300 feet, which is quite impressive considering its purpose. It offers the perfect level of stability, allowing it to go dead straight when thrown flat. What’s more, it works equally well for both backhand and light touch forehand throws. I can make the Tomb curve left, right or fly perfectly straight if I need it to.

While the Tomb is slightly shallower than my usual putting discs, it still serves as a fully adequate putter. In fact, many disc golfers I know actually use the Tomb as their primary putter and trust it completely. The tomb’s blunt rim is another advantage, making it a great choice in all plastic varieties, including the more affordable D-Blend. If I had to pick a personal favorite, it would be the S-Blend variation.

If you’re looking for a reliable and versatile disc for those shorter to medium-sized disc golf courses, I highly recommend giving the Infinite Discs Tomb a try. It won’t disappoint!Blue Infinite Discs Tomb in Basket

  3. Infinite Discs Alpaca: The Alpaca by Infinite Discs has a total rating of 3. It ranks fourth in star rating and second in top-selling discs. The Alpaca is a stable disc that is suitable for a variety of throwing techniques.  this is the original Discmania P2 mold and while it is especially popular as a putting putter, it became very popular as a neutral throwing driving putter when Simon Lizotte threw it all over the place in professional disc golf play.

  4. Discraft Zone: The Zone by Discraft has a total rating of 3.5. It ranks third in star rating and fourth in top-selling discs. The Zone is a classic disc that is known for its predictability and control. The Zone a good single round disc if you are a power player or very forehand driver. Otherwise, it is likely too overstable to be used by most players for single disc rounds.

  5. Kastaplast Berg: The Berg by Kastaplast has a total rating of 7. It ranks eighth in star rating and sixth in top-selling discs. The Berg is a versatile disc that offers a balance of speed and control. like the Zone, the Berg is probably only one you want to use if you have a lot of power or are playing really short courses. This disc has a very unique flight and almost no glide and so is not recommended as a single disc for rounds if you’re playing a long course.

  6. Latitude 64 Pure: The Pure by Latitude 64 has a total rating of 9.5. It ranks seventh in star rating and twelfth in top-selling discs. The Pure is known for its understable flight and is an excellent choice for beginners. this is an ultra neutral putter and the most understable of our recommendations. The Pure is used by Kristen Tattar, the #1 female player in the world and was one of the discs used in this years Trilogy Challenge.

  7. Gateway Wizard: The Wizard by Gateway has a total rating of 10.5. It ranks eleventh in star rating and tenth in top-selling discs. The Wizard is a high-speed disc that is suitable for players with a powerful throw. Once I was in a glow tournament and it started raining. I couldn’t grip any of my other discs because of the wetness and so ended up using only my grippy glow Wizard for most of the tournament. The Wizard is even used as part of the single disc challenge Winter Wizards which is a one disc tournament that happens every winter.

  8. Dynamic Discs Warden: The Warden by Dynamic Discs has a total rating of 14.5. It ranks ninth in star rating and twentieth in top-selling discs. The Warden is a more understable version of the popular Warden, making it a great choice for players looking for a disc with a bit more turn.

Another disc I absolutely love, that doesn’t show up on the rankings because it isn’t sold by Infinite Discs is the Remix Disc Golf Eldritch. It is much like the Tomb but with a smoother rounded profile and more Glide. It is so good for putting and driving!
