If you have a habit of throwing your favorite plastic into the deep abyss of the rough, the Beacon disc tracker might just save your sanity (and your wallet). After putting it through its paces, here is how it actually holds up on the course.
The physical footprint of the Beacon is impressively small, but physics is still physics. How it affects your flight path depends entirely on what you might stick it to:
The Midrange (Westside Warship): On a slower, glidey midrange like the Warship, the Beacon’s weight is barely noticeable. It flew beautifully, only showing a tiny hint of extra understability (meaning it turned over just a smidge more than usual). For a midrange, this is a total win.
The Fairway Driver (Dynamic Discs Vandal): This is where things got wild. Placing it on the Vandal makes it flip faster than a burning pancake. Fast, aerodynamic rims are highly sensitive to center-weight distribution, so if you’re hoping to slap this on a high-speed driver and keep its original flight path, you might want to adjust your expectations.
The tracker comes with a couple of different volume configurations. Here is the play: set it to a louder setting and leave it there.
If the disc lands face-up on the ground, the plastic dome can muffle the sound. On the quieter setting, you’ll find yourself standing right on top of the disc before you actually hear it.
Pro Tip: Make sure you actually remember to turn the unit on before you throw. Staring at a patch of thick briars while realizing your tracker is currently powered down is a special kind of heartbreak.
Sticking the Beacon on is a breeze, especially if your disc has a visible injection mold point right in the center of the flight plate. Just line it up, press down, and you’re good to go.
As for the adhesive? It is absolutely top-tier. I tested its structural integrity via some “unintentional” but highly violent tree hits, and the tracker didn’t budge. It also claims to be water-resistant. While I haven’t fully submarine-tested it, it survived a couple of deep puddle plunges with zero issues, though I’ve yet to find its absolute breaking point.
The Verdict: 8/10
I highly recommend the Beacon to anyone who has a cherished midrange or fairway driver they rely on for tight, dark, woody holes or where the grass is knee high. If you can handle a tiny adjustment to your disc’s flight characteristics in exchange for never losing your go-to plastic in the brush again, this is a fantastic buy.
